James O'Rourke, known as "The Orator" for his clever and robust use of the English language is Bridgeport, CT's only Baseball Hall of Famer. He played in the 1870s through 1900. and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1945. He holds the distinction of getting the first hit in the first game of the National League on April 22, 1876.
