Shea Stadium hosted its last Major League baseball game on September 28, 2008 as the Florida Marlins defeated the Mets on the last game of the season eliminating the Mets. Shortly thereafter, the deconstruction of Shea Stadium began. It really started to come apart in January 2009. I couldn’t help visiting it as the stadium was finally put to rest. Follow the progress from January 17, 2009 as it was going, going and finally gone on February 21, 2009 (actually gone on February 18). Rubble still remained on March 29.
